Folky Goodness
Raven Sings the Blues is a nice little blog that profiles new and old music. In August, the site posted some mp3's from two amazing femme folkies, Linda Perhacs and the newly discovered Sibylle Baier. Click here to download some truly beautiful (and slightly weird) tracks.
Also, the brilliant Waxidermy blog posted on Mossy Davidson a while back. Mossy, who recorded this album in Alaska, is actually related to Jewel! She put out one double album of lonely folk tunes sometime in the '70s and it's definitely worth hearing. Click here for an mp3.

Hello, I have been here before, in January 2007, and I gratefully took the introduced mp3s.
Since that time I am searching for this DOLP of Mossy Davidson, without any success. This one song (posted on waxidermy) is the only one I have ever seen/heard. How is that possible? Is that really so rare?
I mean, in the meantime I have found ALL (yes, all) four albums of Cheryl Dilcher, who was also a very obscure (and great) singer. She was just as rare, and I was able to find her albums. Also the Linda Perhacs album could be found in its complete form.
Why is nobody sharing this album here? Why is the artist not putting it up herself? Is she still alive?
I would really like to know more about this singer and her DOLP. If anybody who reads this has more information, please contact me! Either via email to kaufmeisterin@yahoo.com, or through my own blog. Thank you!
UPDATE - UPDATE - UPDATE !!!
After intense research (took a day off to just do that, ha) I am extremely happy to announce:
Mossy is alive and well in Alaska, and I got her CD now!!! She went back on her birthname (Kilcher), and the Vinyl DOLP of 1977 has been remastered in 1997 by some Alan (forgot who that was).
It is now on one CD (but with all songs, and NO REMIXES or other stupid things some people would consider cool). It has a new cover though, with an "updated" (aged) Mossy looking out her window. But the beautiful artwork was kept, so it is not really a new cover, only an updated one.
You can order your own copy of this great CD from the artist directly! Her new website is
http://www.seasidealaska.com/
From there take a link to the chapter "Mossy's Folk Music" (or so, you will find your way), and you can order it for only 20$ plus postage. I find that price very reasonable, considering the fact that the old vinyl often gets sold on ebay for 45$ or more. And this is a new CD!
It also has a beautiful booklet with many Kilcher photos.
I am so happy to have found this blog, way back in January 2007. From here I went to waxidermy, where I got the song. Thank you thank you!!
Mossy Kilcher is so talented, I am stunned after having listened to the whole CD of 17 songs. I was thinking of the young Judy Collins sometimes, then I was reminded of Joan Baez, early Melanie and even Cheryl Dilcher at times. Big talent!! But she said she never wanted to have a career, so the whole thing stayed local. Of course one has to respect that.
But still - this album deserves so much to be heard!
